Hey guys! Here is a list of the 6-9 month baby must haves everyone needs! My daughter Riley recently turned ten months old so we are fresh out of the 6-9 month range! Find out what toys we loved, what we used as feeding essentials and more!
Feeding Essentials
Riley started eating solids at the end of 5 months old. The reason we started then was because first of all she was showing readiness, reaching for our food and really watching us while we were eating but I was also going back to work when she was 6 months so I wanted to get a head start. Let me tell you I was excited but nervous! Starting solids is a huge step and while it is very exciting I also read a lot about it before starting.
Resources
Okay guys I am a research fanatic so when I was thinking about starting solids, I read everything. The resource I loved the best and still use is the Solids Starts website. The founder of this website, Jenny, is a Mama herself who ended up with a very picky eater. She started Solid Starts with a team of professionals to help other Mamas avoid picky eating and help their babies have a love for food. There are so many guides and databases to give you ideas on what and how to introduce different foods to your baby.
Highchair
We have the Ikea Antilop highchair. It is the perfect size, not too bulky for the kitchen. I also love it because it is so easy to clean. The tray comes off and the rest is one piece that I just wipe down. This highchair is also great because you can buy accessories to customize it! Yeah Baby Goods has the cutest accessories. They have cushion covers, tray mat, footrests and more!
Plate, utensils and bibs
There are so many choices out there when it comes to baby plates and utensils. Our favorite plate and bowls are from ezpz fun. They are silicone, dishwasher safe and have a mat that suctions to the chair. Having a plate that suctions to the tray is AMAZING because babies love to flip the plate and get food everywhere! We have the mini mat and absolutely love it. It is the perfect size for Riley, and we like the sections to give her different options. We also have the tiny cup to help Riley learn to drink from an open cup. Our favorite utensils are the bumkins chewtensils. These are also silicone but the nice thing about these is they are the perfect size for baby hands, and they have a shield to prevent gagging or choking on them. We also use this bib. It is perfect because you can throw it in the dishwasher, and it has a lip to catch food.
Food Prep Supplies
Food prepping a head of time has made it much easier to have meals ready to go for Riley after a long day. One of the best supplies I have used that has helped me, especially in the beginning, was the nutribullet baby. This little blender defineitly came in handy when I was feeding Riley more purees. Whatever we were having for dinner I could throw in the nutribullet and she could have it too! Another item that came in handy are these silicone food molds. I can throw whatever purees are left over and have perfectly portioned sizes for the upcoming week.
Toys for a 6-9 Month Old
There are so many different toys out there. We are going to be chatting about our favorite ones and the toys we used the most!
Play Mat
As soon as Riley started crawling, we knew we needed to invest in this baby mat. It gives her more space to crawl around and it is cushioned so if she topples over, she’s not on the hard floor. The mat is easy to roll up and you could bring it to different rooms if you needed to. We love this for play time!
Lovevery Subscription Boxes
Lovevery boxes are well worth the price. The toys are all developmentally appropriate based on your child’s age. We love getting the monthly subscription box. The toys that come in the boxes are all Montessori based toys. They are all made of wood, cotton, non-toxic paint and baby safe plastic. All of the toys are built so well they will last for the next baby!
Teethers
Riley got her first tooth when she was six months old. We started using teethers before 6 months here and there but really started using them around the 6 month mark. We like this one because we can stick it in the fridge and get it nice and cold to soothe her gums. Another favorite is Sophie! It doubles as a toy, but Riley loved to chew on it.
Stuffed Animals
Stuffed animals have been a new favorite of Riley’s, She loves to snuggle up to her teddy bears and give them big hugs. It is the most adorable thing! This is one of her favorites! We like to pack one with us on the go so she has something to snuggle in the car.
Extra for Mama
Spectra Breast Pump
This goes into the 6-9 month essentials for me because I had to go back to work when Riley was 6 months. I love this breast pump, it works really well, is not uncomfortable and you can adjust the settings for your individual preference. I have this pump, the S1. The only thing I wish is that I got the S2 pump for when I had to go back to work. The difference is the S2 has a rechargeable battery, so you don’t have to worry about plugging it in. I made it work but there are times when I wish I could pump on the way home to save me time.
